How Much Does Commercial Refrigeration Repair Cost in London?

A transparent breakdown of what you can expect to pay for commercial refrigeration repairs across London.

The Short Answer

Most commercial refrigeration repairs in London cost between £120 and £320 for a standard weekday callout. This covers the call-out charge, the first hour of labour, and a straightforward repair. Jobs that require parts, more labour time, or specialist components will cost more.

Kept Cold pricing is fully transparent before any work begins. We quote any additional labour or parts before proceeding. No surprises on the invoice.

What Affects the Total Cost?

Type of fault

Simple faults like a failed thermostat, blocked condenser, or faulty door seal are typically resolved within the first hour. Compressor replacements, refrigerant leaks, or control board failures require more labour and specialist parts.

Parts availability

We carry the most common parts on the van. If a specialist part needs to be ordered, there may be a return visit, though we aim to source and return within 48 hours. The diagnostic charge is the call-out only — the return visit to fit the part is charged at labour rate only.

Time of call

Out-of-hours repairs — evenings, weekends and bank holidays — carry a higher call-out rate and 1.5x the standard labour rate. If your equipment is business-critical, a planned maintenance contract reduces the likelihood of out-of-hours breakdowns significantly.

Equipment type

Larger or more complex systems such as cold rooms, blast chillers, and ice machines typically require more diagnostic time and may carry higher parts costs than standalone undercounter units.

Typical Repair Costs by Equipment Type

EquipmentTypical RangeNotes
Undercounter or display fridge£120 to £280Most resolved in first visit

These are typical ranges. Every job is different. We always confirm the scope of work and any additional costs before proceeding.

Is It Worth Repairing or Replacing?

As a rule of thumb, if the repair cost exceeds 50% of the replacement value of the unit, replacement often makes more financial sense. Our engineers will always give you an honest assessment on site. If a unit is beyond economic repair, we can supply a replacement Foster unit at trade prices with full installation.

For newer equipment under 5 years old, repair almost always makes sense. For older equipment with a history of faults, we will tell you clearly if replacement is the better option.
